September Planning Update from Semington Parish Council
This is a message from Semington Parish Council
As you know, Wiltshire Council planners are currently considering plans to build 171 new houses in the village – an increase of approx 43%. The Parish Council is aware of the widespread concern within the village about the huge scale of these proposals, and has written to the leader of Wiltshire Council, Baroness Scott, about this.
What follows is a summary of where we currently stand.
16/06956/OUT – Framptons – 72 houses on land north of St George’s Road
The developers are coming to the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday September 14th (8pm) to present their proposals. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
Please note that the deadline for comments to be received by Wiltshire Council has been extended to Friday September 23rd.
You can see all the paperwork (and comment on the proposal) at: ow.ly/ID9G303cCR3
You can also comment by emailing developmentmanagement@wiltshire.gov.uk or you can write to: David Cox, Wiltshire Council, Development Services Central, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge, BA14 8JN

16/05783/OUT – Richborough Estates – 75 houses along Pound Close / Lane
Following discussions at the July Parish Council meeting, this proposal was opposed by the Parish Council on five planning grounds:
1. The inappropriate scale of the development
2. The negative impact on the countryside and the Kennet & Avon Canal
3. Totally unsuitable highways access
4. Sewerage and flooding problems
5. The lack of consultation with the village community
Wiltshire Council received 142 letters about this development from the village. 141 of these opposed the plans.
The application will be discussed at the Western Area Planning Committee at County Hall on Wednesday 28th September. The meeting starts at 3pm. The Parish Council will be represented at the meeting and will oppose the development.
If you wish to express your feelings about this development (either way), we would urge you to go to this meeting which is fully open to the public. If you go to the Atrium by the library entrance, around 2.30 you will be escorted to the meeting room.
16/01678/OUT – Hannick Homes – 24 houses / bungalows along St George’s Road
This proposal was supported by the Parish Council because it met the need established in the 2014 village housing needs survey, and was broadly welcomed by villagers. Currently, the Section 106 agreement for this development is being negotiated between the developer and Wiltshire Council. It is not clear when this will be completed, but we expect this development (and the welcome allotments) will be approved.
